Official passport and visa applications have highly strict photographic requirements. If your photo has incorrect dimensions, an unapproved background, or is saved at a low resolution, your application will be rejected.
Standard Passport Dimensions:
- United States & India: 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) at 300 DPI (resulting in a 600x600 pixel digital image).
- United Kingdom & European Union: 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm) at 300 DPI.
- Canada: 50 x 70 mm (5 x 7 cm) at 300 DPI.
How to Prepare Your Passport Photo
- Facial Alignment: Government portals require your face to cover 50% to 70% of the image height. Click Crop Image in the preview area and choose the US passport 2x2 or 35x45mm passport preset. Position your face in the center of the crop boundaries.
- Set Units & DPI: Switch the unit dropdown to Inches (in) or Millimeters (mm) to match the target passport specification. Keep the DPI input at 300 to ensure print-ready sharpness.
- Save as JPG: Always download your passport photo in JPG format. Most visa upload portals (including the US Department of State portal) explicitly reject WEBP and PNG files.
