Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers and quick guides on how to crop, resize, and compress your images.

Sizing & Conversions

Can I resize images using inches, centimeters, or millimeters?

Yes. Smart Image Resizer supports pixels (px), inches (in), centimeters (cm), and millimeters (mm).

When you choose a physical unit (like inches or mm), you can adjust the DPI (Dots Per Inch) value (default is 300 DPI for high-quality printing). The tool automatically calculates the correct pixel boundaries based on your target DPI to ensure your printed output remains sharp.

How do I resize an image to a specific file size in KB or MB?

Select the File Size tab in the configuration panel and choose one of our preset limits (like under 50 KB, 100 KB, or 200 KB) or choose “Custom Target Size” to enter your own value.

The application runs a local search loop in your browser, automatically adjusting compression quality and scaling dimensions until the image meets your target size.

Can I resize an image without losing quality?

Making an image smaller (downscaling) always discards some pixel data, but you can maintain sharp visual quality by keeping compression high.

Smart Image Resizer uses high-quality canvas bicubic interpolation smoothing to render downscaled frames. If you want zero compression artifacts, export in PNG format (lossless) or set the WEBP/JPG Quality slider to 90% or above in the Advanced Options.

How do I crop an image or lock its aspect ratio?

When an image is loaded, click the Crop Image button in the preview header to open the interactive editor. You can select aspect ratio presets (like 1:1, 16:9, or visa document shapes) to lock proportions while dragging, zoom in/out, or reposition the selection frame.

Alternatively, toggle Lock Aspect Ratio in Advanced Options to keep original proportions when typing new widths or heights.

Formats & Portals

Which file format should I choose: JPG, PNG, or WEBP?
  • JPG / JPEG: Highly compatible. Best for photos and official online forms/portals.
  • PNG: Lossless format. Best for logos, screenshots, and signatures where transparency must be preserved.
  • WEBP: Next-generation web format. Provides the smallest file sizes for web speed but is not widely accepted by government portals.
Why do some portals reject my WEBP files, and how do I fix it?

Many official job application boards, passport portals, and university admission websites are legacy systems that only accept JPG or PNG formats.

To ensure compliance, use our File Size mode to compress your image and select JPG or PNG on the format selection bar. Smart Image Resizer explicitly defaults to safe JPG outputs for all portal-related presets.

What are the recommended image dimensions for social media?

Smart Image Resizer includes pre-configured presets for popular social media dimensions under the Presets tab:

  • Instagram: Square Post (1080x1080 px) and Stories (1080x1920 px).
  • YouTube: Thumbnail (1280x720 px).
  • LinkedIn: Landscape Feed Image (1200x628 px).
  • WhatsApp: Circular DP bounding box (500x500 px).

Privacy & Security

Is it safe to upload my ID cards or certificates to this site?

Yes, it is entirely safe because nothing is uploaded.

Unlike other online tools, all image scaling, cropping, and rendering happen locally on your computer inside your browser memory using HTML5 Canvas APIs. Your files are never sent to a server. You can verify this by turning off your internet connection—the resizer will still work.

Is this tool free, and do I need to register?

Smart Image Resizer is completely free to use. There are no registration forms, no subscriptions, and no hidden features locked behind paywalls.

Because we process your images entirely on your own device rather than running expensive server-side cloud graphics hardware, we are able to keep operating costs very low.

Bulk & Performance

What are the limits of the Bulk Resizer?

The Bulk Resizer allows you to upload up to 50 images at a time. The files are queued and processed sequentially to prevent browser tab freeze.

You can apply global max bounding boxes, lock aspect ratios, rename file suffixes, and choose custom formats. Once complete, you can download them individually or as a single ZIP archive.

Can I use this tool on a mobile device?

Yes, Smart Image Resizer is fully mobile-responsive and operates on iOS and Android browsers.

Since processing happens directly on your device, speed is dependent on your phone’s processor. For large batches (>10 files) on mobile, we recommend splitting your files into smaller groups to prevent mobile browser memory allocation limits from closing the tab.
